Disappointing Start to New
Season for Bowdon
In spite of fielding a
strong young tem, Bowdon’s match against Prestbury was always
going to be tough and could go either way.
With Chris Ryder at 1, in
a particularly feisty mood due to missing out on the draw of the
British Open, Steve Siveter the Prestbury number 1 stood little
chance as Ryder took no prisoners, demonstrating his class (and
disappointment) in a short 3-0 win for Bowdon.
Simon Taylor took on Glen
Ragou at 5. Ever the competitor and exceptionally fit for his
40-something age, Ragou ground down Taylor, in spite of Taylor’s
considerable training over the summer. Taylor was disappointed to
lose but perhaps not surprised as Ragou is a most competent player
who we were unfortunate to meet at number 5 slot.
Nick Murrills at 4 played
Danny Massaro – always a match that could go either way. After a
storming start, winning the first game 9-2, Murrills was unable to
build up the lead as Massaro gained the tough second then pulled
ahead taking the third and fourth with relative ease.
With the match sitting at
1-2 to Prestbury, a lot rested on two young shoulders as Adam
Murrills at 3 and Neil Cordell at 2 tackled gargantuan opponents
in Eddie Charlton and Stewart Crawford respectively.
Murrills played to his
usual high standard against young opponent Charlton, who, on
paper, should win. However Murrills had not read the script as he
took the second and third games for a 2-1 advantage. Charlton
appeared to get a second wind after the third and cruised his way
to victory taking the last two games. A good fight from Murrills,
but it was not to be.
Cordell meanwhile was
giving Stewart Crawford a similar run for his money, taking the
first 9-2. Crawford managed to equalise the match by taking the
very tight second and then moved into the lead with an easy third.
The final game was hard fought by Cordell, but he was pipped at
the post 6-9.
A disappointing result for
Bowdon, but 7 good points on the board against a really strong
opposition.

kindly sponsored this first match.
