Bowdon Junior Squash is a thriving section of the
club, with over 70 juniors registered to play.
Although junior members are welcome to play at any
time, subject to the appropriate court booking fee being paid, there are various
organised
sessions and incentives to enable quality play and coaching for all junior
players.
Junior Morning is held on Saturdays from 9am until
12noon. Approximately 45 children attend the sessions which run each week from
early September through to mid-July each year. It operates on a 'Pay and Play’
basis and is open to members and non-members alike - just turn up. The cost is
£2 per child fro members and £3 for non-members. The morning is divided into three sessions:
9am - 10am Beginners and
children under 11
10am - 11am Improvers and older children
11am - 12noon
Advanced players
Bowdon runs an after school coaching session one
evening each week, again divided into two sessions - Beginners and Improvers.
Please contact the club office for further details.
Juniors who are members of the Club can currently
take advantage of the 'Free courts for Juniors' initiative, which offers free
use of courts up to 4.20pm midweek (i.e. you need to pay for the 4.40pm court)
and at all times at weekends. Please note, this is not available for
organised
coaching sessions, when the court fee must be paid. At busier times, it is
sensible to book a court to be sure of getting a game. The Club reserves the
right to remove the 'free courts for juniors' offer at any time.
In addition to the weekly
organised
sessions, there are several special events
organised
throughout the year such as a large Christmas Open tournament, the annual Club
tournament, internal leagues and ladder, inter-club matches and a tour. There is
a Mentor scheme which links a junior player to a nominated senior who will act
as their Mentor throughout their junior years, and encourage them to benefit
fully from the Club as they progress into the senior ranks. Encouragement is
given at all stages and in various ways, from the weekly 'Trophy' at the
beginners sessions to the awarding of the prestigious 'Black Jacket' once a
junior has shown several years commitment and loyalty to Bowdon.
